Dear Parents and Guardians of students in grades 3-8,

Three academic goals at XYZ School are to improve student learning, reduce achievement gaps and build public confidence in Catholic education. We try to achieve these three goals in a variety of ways. One area of education that has grown in importance over the years is integrated technology.
During the month of October the staff and students at XYZ will focus on integrated technology. It is our hope to improve technology skills and use by teachers and students. As a staff, we are reading Resistance is Futile by Marlene McIntosh. This is a powerful article for everyone concerned about the use of technology to support teaching and learning in the classroom. This article is available on the school board website at:

The technology focus at XYZ will look as follows:

October 4 At our staff learning meeting, teachers will look at organizational software and explore how it can be used in the classroom.
October 4-8 Teachers will work curriculum expectations into the school template and communicate with parents and students. Success Criteria, due dates and dates when there will be support in the classroom will be shared with parents.
October 12-15 Daily push in / pull out support provided by support staff
With support all students will create webs for projects

October 19-22 Daily push in / pull out support provided by support staff
Expanding on topics, research and the process of writing paragraphs

October 25 At our staff learning meeting, teachers will look at WORD and the ASSIGNMENTS AND HOMEWORK FOLDERS in computer

October 25-29 continued work on projects

November 1 Work due to teachers

As you can see, teachers will build their skills and comfort level for using technology in the classroom. Teachers and students will be supported in the teaching and learning process by additional support staff. All classrooms will be divided between the SERTs, the librarian, the Vice Principal and Principal, so that students can build their skills and comfort level for using technology. Each project will be completed at school.

If you have any questions regarding our technology month project, please call me at the school, I would be pleased to speak with you.
